About the Author

Henry M. Walker has been an active member within the computing-education community for over two decades. Major activities include curricular development, innovative pedagogy, textbook writing, teaching, and service. Since 1974, he has been on the faculty at Grinnell College, currently as the Samuel R. and Marie-Louise Rosenthal Professor of Natural Science and Mathematics, and Professor of Computer Science. During some leaves and summers, he has taught 8 semesters at the University of Texas at Austin. Internationally, he has been a guest faculty member at Nanjing University in China and Unitec in New Zealand.

Before this book, he wrote 8 undergraduate textbooks, published by Jones and Bartlett, Health Publishers, Little Brown, Scott Foresmann, and Winthrop Publishers (affiliated with Prentice Hall). He also has written several dozen articles on computing education, serves as co-editor for the SIGCSE Bulletin newsletter, writes columns on Classroom Vignettes and Curricular Syncopations for ACM Inroads, and serves as an Associate Editor for ACM Inroads.

Over the years, Henry Walker has actively participated in the development of the Model Curricula for a Liberal Arts Degree in Computer Science, prepared by the Liberal Arts Computer Science Consortium, and he chaired Pedagogy Focus Group 2 on Supporting Courses for Computing Curricula 2001.

This is my second copy of Competitive Taekwondo. I lost the first after thoroughly reading from front to back. There is loads of information for techniques and strategy. Most of all I found the content explanations to be to the point and helpful. For anyone competing in tournaments, this book will add clarity and breadth to your understanding of Taekwondo competition.

If you are looking for a book on how to spar, this is the first book I found that deals with how to apply what you learned in class. No forms and mostly techniques. It may not cover all the techniques used in competition but it's a lot more than what other books has to offer. Green Universe - Ohrai Noriyoshi is a sumptuous collection of stunning artwork by prolific Japanese illustrator Ohrai Noriyoshi, whose repertoire of work runs the gamut from Starwars to Koei's Romance Of The Three Kingdoms, Godzilla and many more. He works primarily in oil paint.

Noriyoshi-san gained wide acclaim for his work when he was commissioned by Lucasfilm to paint the international poster for The Empire Strikes Back in 1980.

A spectacular volume of gorgeous poster art work from a truly talented painter and artist. This is the first time such a huge collection of Noriyoshi's illustrations have been published in an art book. My highest recommendations.

Great Collection of Stunning Artwork!

I've seen his artwork all my life but just recently came to appreciate the incredible Noriyoshi Ohrai. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few collections of his work available. This particular volume "Green Universe" is fantastic and one of the more affordable tomes available featuring Ohrai's stunning work. I highly recommend this collection!

We used this text for my Engineering class. I agree with the other reviewer about the "user-friendliness" of Matlab; it's not great in comparison to the Excel portions. There are a few parts where our TA advises we do research online/on Matlab itself for coding instructions rather than read the book.
Other than that, very helpful book.

Impressive suggestions

This book is a creative approach to management using the classic wizard of Oz story and featuring the dog Toto. I have been involved in management at all levels for almost 70 years, mostly in a university setting. At the highest level I have managed smaller enterprises such as academic journals. In the university itself I have mostly been in middle management. At that level I have been privileged to observe university presidents at close hand. I have read many works on management but I think for creative suggestions in a compact work this book is one of the best. It focuses not so much on competency. The assumption is that should one reach a high level of management competency is presumed. The focus is upon the people skills needed to move an organization or group into a desired future. It is my observation that highly competent people sometimes fail because they do not bring the rest of their personnel along with them as they pursue their goals. This book focuses upon collaboration,courage,trust, transparency, and matters of the heart. It is an excellent work for CEO's to purchase for their organizational managers so as to bring them together for discussing extraordinary management.

You lead by what you are

Toto is a most stimulating book from a leading American medical thought leader. Contrary to most CEO like leader books, this is not a how-to with item list consistently applied. Instead the focus is on the character of the leader. It is on page 125 where we learn one early defining source of the author’s narrative. He is standing on his father's family farm porch holding his father's hand, absorbing the hail storm disaster that just destroyed the wheat and the farm when his father with quiet resilient fortitude states "Well, I guess we should get on with the rest of our life". Dr Fickenscher's book points to the attributes of character which will guide leaders and their corporate ships through challenging waters. The 15 "Lessons" are qualities necessary for those who lead. Values of Integrity, Commitment, Excellence and Responsive are imperative. Two quotes define the essence of character: "in the end, keeping our integrity is most important part of being a successful leader" and “It is important to embrace the world and have no fear”. One of the more interesting chapters is On Courage where the author states "Courage is commitment" and "Commitment is the energy that feeds the soul of followers". Forty-nine times "commitment" is found in this chapter. About the Author
After 32 years as a radiography program director, Quinn B. Carroll recently took his retirement from Midland College in Texas as an assistant professor to write full time. Quinn has published three textbooks, workbooks and a number of journal articles. His newest publication is Radiography in the Digital Age, released in 2011 along with several instructional ancillaries. Quinn has presented over 120 seminars in Canada and the USA, and many dozens of presentations for state societies and the ASRT. Quinn received his Master of Education degree from the University of Wyoming and his BS degree from the University of Utah, where he also obtained his radiography training at the University Medical Center. He is a dynamic, fun speaker and very excited to be part of meeting the challenge to embrace digital technology head on.

Dennis Bowman RT(R), CRT(R)(F) has been an active radiographer for over 35 years. He has been employed as a Staff Technologist at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) in Monterey, California since 1990 and was the Clinical Instructor until 2014. With a digital dosimeter and a vast array of body phantoms, Dennis has put in hundreds of hours researching and studying digital techniques. In addition to the weekly classes he gives his students, Dennis has travelled internationally lecturing on how best to use and critique digital radiography. Because Dennis still is a "shooting tech" and CI, he truly understands all the problems techs run into and has figured out a fun and lighthearted way to explain it.

Finally somebody is talking about real positioning issues

I have taught for many years and much of what is in this book has been informally talked about in my positioning classes. This text formally presents these positioning issues and then explains why things are this way. There are very clear illustrations to demonstrate these principles as well. I expect this book to be a very welcome addition for radiography instructors and I plan to add it to my required textbooks this fall. Great job!

Tight spaces, uncooperative patients, NO PROBLEM! The image critique was a greater refresher. The only problem I had is the binder started breaking down and the pages was loosing up

Needs work

Has a lot of great tips, however the book suffers from poor organization and the index doesn't help much. There's good information in this book, but it is hard to find when you need it.

Severe trauma can make the simplest xray very difficult and there are some parts of the body that are completely omitted in this book or given a single sentence of attention. I hope this book addresses these issues in the next edition.
