About the Author
Hector Malot (1830-1907) was a French writer born in La Bouille, Seine-Maritime. He studied law in Rouen and Paris, but eventually literature became his passion. He worked as a dramatic critic for Lloyd Francais and as a literary critic for "L'Opinion Nationale." His first book, published in 1859, was" Les Amants." Malot eventually wrote more than 70 books. By far his most famous book is "Sans Famille" ("Nobody's Boy, " 1878), which deals with the travels of the young orphan Remi, who is sold to the street musician Vitalis at age 10. "Sans Famille" gained fame as a children's book, though it was not originally intended as such. He announced his retirement as an author of fiction in 1895, but in 1896 he returned with the novel "L'amour Dominateur" as well as the account of his literary life "Le Roman de mes Romans" (The Novel of my Novels).

Wonderful story of strength and not giving up

I just recently finished reading this book. Once I started I didn't want to put it down. This is about a 13 year old girl who goes through a lot of painful changes in her life before finding her grandfather. Even in this there are secrets. She has to find a way for her grandfather to love her before she reveals who she really is.

Dickens for children

I first read this book as a young child and have been rereading it once a year ever since. I'm now in my 50s, so you can appreciate the impact this novel of an orphan girl's trials in 19th-century France had upon me. How marvelous were her adventures with her beloved donkey Palikare, her Robinson Crusoe-like existence in a secret hut on an island, and her experiences as a factory girl. This section of the novel allowed the author to explore with great sympathy the miserable plight of the worker in France. All in all, a lyrical, exciting tale that transports the reader into the fully-realized world of a kind, resourceful, and honorable child. Oh, I love this book.

About the Author
Patrick D. Miller is Charles T. Haley Professor Emeritus of Old Testament Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. He is the author of numerous books, including The Religion of Ancient Israel. He is coeditor of the Interpretation commentary series and the Westminster Bible Companion series. In 1998, he served as President of the Society of Biblical Literature. He was also editor of Theology Today for twenty years.

An insightful, comprehensive, and outstanding volume to conclude the Interpretation series on the Pentateuch.

The Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomy) does not describe the entry into the Promised Land, but does describe the journey on how to get there. Fittingly, the Book of Deuteronomy is a book about a people on the verge, with the assured promise ahead of them and the bondage of the past behind them. Appropriately, Miller’s book is dedicated to revealing the essential character and message of the Bible’s fifth book: exactly how the believing community should live once they do arrive into the promise, and the fundamental issue of faith—how a believer should face the future that lies ahead.

The author provides a rich and comprehensive interpretation of the text, describes the revelation of the Book in the New Testament, analyses the blueprint for a moral and just society as prescribed by Mosaic Law, defines the proper role of leaders and priests from the Biblical perspective, and expounds upon exactly how individuals must interact in a divinely-inspired society. I found particularly interesting Miller’s description and analysis of the Mosaic Law as an elaboration of the commandments set forth in the Decalogue.

Many political demagogues today would find this commentary very illuminating, especially its discussion on caring for the unfortunate, justice, and appropriate interpersonal relations in a community of faith.

Overall, I have been extremely satisfied thus far with many volumes in the Interpretation series and this volume is no exception. Deuteronomy Interpretation certainly does not disappoint and will prove to be a valuable resource for those who wish to interpret the scriptures, teach the Bible, or preach to a congregation.

Understanding of Deuteronomy has been enhanced

This was used for class on Deuteronomy at seminary and I gained a much clearer understanding of how to use this fifth book of the Hebrew Bible with clarity of both the content and context. I feel this author knows his material and can convey it well because of his vast knowledge.

About the Author
Ken Peak’s career as a practitioner and educator in law enforcement and criminal justice spans more than 35 years — including nearly eight years as a police chief executive and beat officer. He is currently a full professor and former chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice, University of Nevada, Reno, where he was named teacher of the year by the university’s honor society. He entered municipal policing in Kansas in 1970 and subsequently held positions as a nine-county criminal justice planner in Kansas; director of a four-state Technical Assistance Institute for the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration; director of university police at Pittsburg State University in Kansas; acting director of public safety at the University of Nevada, Reno; and assistant professor of criminal justice at Wichita State University.

He has authored or coauthored twenty other textbooks, including Justice Administration: Police, Courts, and Corrections Management (5th ed.); Community Policing and Problem Solving: Strategies and Practices (5th ed., with Ronald W. Glensor); Police Supervision and Management: In an Era of Community Policing (2nd ed., with Ronald W. Glensor and Larry K. Gaines); Women in Law Enforcement Careers: A Guide for Preparing and Succeeding� with V. Lord); and Policing Communities: Understanding Crime and Solving Problems (an anthology, with R. Glensor and M. Correia). He has also published two historical books– Kansas Temperance: Much Ado about Booze, 1870 — 1920 (with P. Peak) and Kansas Bootleggers (with Patrick G. O’Brien)–as well as more than fifty journal articles and book chapters.

He has served as chairman of the Police Section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and as president of the Western and Pacific Association of Criminal Justice Educators. His teaching interests include policing, administration, victimology, and comparative justice systems. He received two gubernatorial appointments to statewide criminal justice committees while residing in Kansas and holds a doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Needed this for a class

It was cheaper (even with shipping) to buy the book here than it was at my school's bookstore. I don't sell textbooks back because you never get nearly what you paid for them, but this one was pretty good regardless. I was able to use it for several other papers in other classes.

Although it can sometimes take a little thought to understand what the author's meaning is, and despite the suggestion of BA or Whitworth screws and the like being used (metric are far easier to obtain now, even in N. America), this is a valuable resource well worth reading or owning. The rotary table and vertical slide are very tempting.

Good read....finished in one night

I read this when I first was published back in 85. I always reread books but this wasn't available on Kindle Books so I had to get the hard back version. Elvis was so gorgeous and had such a voice that is doubly sad that his life ended so soon. He is a perfect example that money doesn't buy happiness. You also can't buy friendships. He had a loyal gang, but they have profited off him in his death and destroyed the image of the King. I know he wasn't a saint, none of us are but everyone was so afraid to make him mad they abetted his drugs and spending. I can't imagine a 14 year old girl thrown into this, I couldn't have handled it at 14. It is a wonder she came out on the other side ok. Wonderful story of total love and adoration and the tole it can take on you.

Great Elvis love story!

This was an excellent read, especially if your a fan of Elvis. Priscilla takes you through her entire lif with Elvis, she gives such a great detailed story of how their love began and all the way up to his death. Priscilla Presley gives the reader an insight to an Elvis that no one really knew except her, their affinity towards eachother is absolutely true. I read this book in a little less than two weeks, I could not put it down! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in true love, heartbreak, life lessons, the 60's, and Elvis ofcourse.

A useless book for recycling

this is a book totally useless. It tells you nothing! 1. I doubt the author is from Germany because I got big language problem when trying to understand the sentences. The author loved to make long sentences which confused me all the time. 2. The author just tells you what SAP can do, this is absolutely not what I want. People can learn this from newspaper or review or advertisement. what people want to know is how to use SAP or how to implement, install it. actually the book tells nothing. 3. the quality is bad. I got a book, of which 200 pages were printed in Yellow paper, 100 pages were printed in grey paper. The index on each page of chapter 17 was printed as "chapter 18". 4. I am totally disappointed. now I know why SAP is difficult to learn, the reference book made so!

A massive tome that fails to live up to it�s billing.

This book is useful for two things: introducing neophytes to R/3 , and as a book end. Special Edition Using SAP R/3 is one of those volumes that is so bulky that it will look impressive and hold your other books in place. Readers who do not know SAP will learn enough about R/3 to understand the basic functions and architecture. If you have already decided to implement R/3 and have any background with the system, even if only an introductory course, skip this book. You will find it incomplete. If you know nothing about SAP feel like skipping the demos and spending a good portion of a hundred bucks get this book. If you need to fill four inches of bookshelf this volume will do it.
