Extended information of what is available in the book

The post adventure strategy guide is only as expansive as the content found in-game after beating it. As such, I'll just list a few things not mentioned in the description to help other potential customers decide if it's worth buying this guide.

The poster included is approximately 30in by 37in, or 58cm by 94cm
The guide explains the functions of Battle Maison
The guide lists all available Pok�mon found in Friend Safari
The guide provides the areas where the roaming legendary birds can be found to force them into Sea Spirit's Den
The guide provides ranking information for the Battle Institute
The guide provides extensive information for the Looker sidequest.
The guide has outdated information on the breeding mechanics. (to be discussed below)
The guide provides the locations of the megastones
The guide explains how the Pok�radar works

This strategy guide has the same layout as the previous guide, with an introduction of the new location with a checklist of items and Pok�mon obtainable in said area, followed by points of interests worth checking out. Just like the guide before it, it has a list of the egg groups readily available, so there's no need to refer to the previous guide for the information. The guide also gives information on how Pok�mon breeding works but it's a tad outdated. The information that is outdated is still correct, but it does not explain that the mechanics have been simplified, making it far easier to breed a Pok�mon with the desired traits.

The first half of the guide does its job in assisting the player find all the post-game content while providing tips where applicable.
The second half of the guide, which is the Pok�dex, is as informative as it can be. The Pok�dex provides an in-depth look at the Pok�mon's level-up moves, TM&HM moves, egg moves, and tutor moves. It also provides information on where to find the Pok�mon, the facilities you can use them in, and the damage taken in both regular battles and inverse battles. Superfluous information includes their evolution line and front/side/rear views of the Pok�mon. The Pok�dex guide also provides extensive information on alternate forms, such as the multiple patterns of Vivillon.

All in all, the guide provides the necessary information that you need in one handy location if you dislike browsing the internet for the information and does a great job with the Pok�dex. However, it does have its downsides:

The guide only has the Pok�dex information for the three Kalos regions. So you won't find information on Pok�mon not native to Kalos, like Rattata and Entei.
The information to find items is not as extensive as guides found online.
The Pok�dex does not use numerical values for the base stats and still use the bar system from previous guides.
It's paperback.

In Generation V, only the males can pass down moves, and only the females can pass down the Hidden Ability.
In Generation VI, both males and females can pass down moves and pass down the Hidden Ability. The female will pass down the Pok�ball that it was caught in to its offspring. Example: a female Pancham caught it a Net Ball will always pass the Net Ball down to its offspring. Master Ball and Cherish Balls cannot be passed down.

Good informations.. But still lacking.

I've been a huge collector of Pok�mon strategy guides because. I, myself is a huge fan and gamer. This guide really isn't that good. The pokedex layout and setup is missing some Pok�mon and also doesn't provide the best ways to catch Pok�mon. I'm not saying it isn't there, but it's tedious and small. Now let's get to the guide part. The post game guide itself doesn't really do justice. I feel spots are missing and this guide was hastily made just to make a few quick bucks.

Recommended for: Adding to your collection. There's really not much information that will help you. And another con it was made to be like a pocket book. So it's bulky and easy to lose your place. The last few guides for X and Y have been complete letdowns compared to the old strategy guides Pok�mon has produced.

Incomplete, but thorough in what it does have

As other reviews have probably mentioned, this Pokedex doesn't have all the Pokemon in it, which is annoying considering that's why I bought it! At least the stuff it does have (post-game info, some of the Pokemon) seems complete. The font for the Pokemon information (like TMs, etc) that does exist is also in a really tiny font, and I'm not an old man!

Honestly, I'd just use websites like Serebii . net (look it up) to get any information needed and skip the guide. I'd like to buy a complete guide - unfortunately, this isn't it! I like having all the Pokemon in one book that I can reference!

P.S. the poster is cool. I'll probably keep it for that and the post game information.

The History of Evil and Why it is Important to Understand

I purchased this book after I had read and subsequently reviewed on Amazon Zen Garcia's latest work, "Sons of God." I ingested "Sons of God," and believed that work opened up for me many paths of thinking and truth not yet explored. I invite you to read my review of "Sons of God" here on Amazon.

After finishing "Sons of God," I wanted more of Zen Garcia's excellent research and insightful commentary on ancient, esoteric, as well as Biblical writings, and so I bought this work "Lucifer Father of Cain." I was not disappointed! This work is a must read prequel to "Sons of God." It lays down foundational truths that must be grasped before moving on to further truths. The following are some of the reasons why I unequivocally recommend this book for any sincere seeker of deeper wisdom and truth, both historical truth and prophetic future truth. Allow me to explain.

1. The book is well organized into a meaningful and consecutive timeline of chapters. It starts with a huge learning lesson on "pre-history," then slowly and methodically builds the case for the reason of evil in this world, specifically the two seed-lines; one of Lucifer and the other of Seth. All the while, Zen hammers away any doubt with well-researched and well-interpreted ancient texts that no one else has brought together in such a manner.

2. Zen takes his readers from the pre-historical fall of Lucifer and angelic rebellion through the giant Nephilim cannibals, and to the current age of the Illuminati and hybrid serpent seed of wickedness controlling our very planet. Zen's special gift of understanding and relating to his readers the ancient hidden and esoteric texts brings the reader to the cold pale truth regarding the origins of evil and why it is always with us.

3. However, Zen Garcia does not just present the origin of evil and leave the reader stranded without hope; he always consistently points the reader to the majesty and sovereignty of the Creator God, the true and only real Creator God. There is a way out from the coming destruction of wickedness brought on by the serpent seed, and Zen does not hesitate to firmly declare the way of salvation from this impending doom.

4. I found this book prophetic. Zen spends a great deal of effort laying the foundation for historical evil, and yet, he devotes time to explaining how all of this information will affect the human race in the prophetic future when the end of evil draws near. And so, this work covers all of history to the future.

The title, "Lucifer Father of Cain," is too narrow. That topic, which has raised the eyebrows and ruffled the feathers of the sanctimonious religious, the Biblically ignorant, the uniformed, and sometimes just the plain old nasty spirit of wickedness in some people, is not what this book is about in its entirety. In fact, the topic of Lucifer "seeding" Cain from Eve is just one topic in the larger context of Luciferian evil in this age.

The title, in my opinion, would have been better suited as something to the tune of, "The Origins of Evil Past Present and Future." I can always tell when a negative reviewer has not really read the book. They will only focus on the topic of Lucifer being the father of Cain and reject the idea because of the use of extra-Biblical sources to arrive at that conclusion. If the negative reviewer had actually read the book in its entirety, they would have seen that there is much more to this extensive work on evil then its narrow title assumes.

Please do not allow narrow minded thinking to prevent you from discovering fantastic truths and concepts that are guaranteed to get your spiritual juices flowing. If it leads to a deeper and greater fellowship with the Creator God, then it cannot be bad.

This book is wonderfully researched, woven then articulated in a way that humanity needs so desperately today. It is controversial to say the least. However, think about all those people that claim to have an open mind and are willing to entertain a different point of view. Go ahead and read it before passing judgment on it's contents if you dare.

I have read all of Zens books and have been blessed by his insight and understanding of Gods Word. All of the books are beautiful and written in an easy to follow and understand way. The reference material that he uses is amazing and the amount of time and effort he has put into his research is truly humbling. God blesses whom He will to have insight to things that most of us cannot open our eyes to in understanding. He has blessed Zen with this gift so that we may benefit. I would recommend that anyone with questions regarding the spiritual things of God read Zens books.

She has studied Spanish, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Amharic, German, Yiddish, and Quechua, and is fascinated by the ways in which these various systems of language combine to express tense and aspect, number, gender, shape, color, sensory perception, stance, opinion, affect, and emotion.

She teaches courses at Penn State in Discourse Analysis, Discourse Functional Grammar (English and other languages), Linguistic Anthropology, Second Language Writing, and Pedagogical Approaches to L2 Speaking/Listening.

Since 2012, she has been the mother of six school-aged children, all adopted from Ethiopia. Together they have been building foundations of literacy as "social cognition," foundations through which words and worlds connect to form new understandings about people and freedom, education and respect; about science, social studies, history, literature, and art.

She is currently working on a new book with Parastou Feiz, Cal State San Bernardino, and Xuehua Xiang, University of Illinois at Chicago, also to be published by Routledge, on the topic of discourse functional grammar. She is also authoring a book on her adoption story, detailing the institutional challenges of the adoption process itself and sharing the absolute joy, wonder, and awe of being a mother to six utterly amazing children.

Parastou Feiz is Associate Professor in the Department of English at California State University - San Bernardino.

Excellent Textbook

I recently used Strauss and Feiz (2014) in my discourse analysis class and enjoyed using it. What I liked the most about the book is its richly exemplified inductive approach, which worked well for my purpose of introducing students to discourse analysis both as an interdisciplinary field and as a research methodology/analytic lens. The book is also helpful with its coherent emphasis on the inseparability of meaning and form, and the indispensability of stance and perspective-taking in approaching discourse. With these themes coherently constructed in the book, students not only come to "know" about discourse analysis, but begin to view language beyond the surface, to analyze data, and to become intrigued in what discourse analysis can do and can discover.

The writing is thorough, insightful and relatable (with data excepts from children's books, radio news casts, extreme weather reports, pizza recipes and other such everyday, lively language occurrences).

Another major plus for this book is its organization and sequencing. This is the first book I have used without having to re-arrange its chapters to create better overall coherence, or skip chapters due to the bulk of materials. When teaching with this book, if one chapter doesn't get finished in its planned time, the discussions easily merge with the subsequent chapter.

The book comes with a very good set of suggested readings and a solid bibliography. A good portion of the article-length readings that I included for my students to read were selected from the "Suggestions for Further Reading" section of each chapter, which I found to be a carefully chosen collection that extend the discussion of the chapter or otherwise provide exemplary illustration of the use of DA to study diverse language phenomena.

About the Author
Trevor Baxendale was born in Liverpool in 1966. Don't read this to your kids!

What an excellent read! I have read many DW novels but this is by far the best. Not only are the Daleks truly terrifying in this, much more so than they were ever portrayed in video, what is done to the Doctor almost had me in tears (and this from a 50 year old fangirl!) Ten is my doctor and to see him suffer at the hands (plungers and whisks) of the Daleks was almost too much to bear. A very complicated novel in that there is a lot of characters, many losses and truly graphic scenario's. It is the one DW book I would not hesitate to reread and that is saying a lot. You won't be sorry if you get this, believe me! PS I am now listening to the audible version of the book just to hear Briggs read it. He is excellent with his interpretation of all the different marvelous characters that were so magnificently written. When you finish reading the book listen to it. Utterly fantastic!!!

Postscript

I have now reread this twice and re-listened to it again and still love it, maybe even more so now. This should be required reading for every Whovian or on the fence, might be Whovians out there. You don't merely read (or listen) to this book so as devour it!

The closest shave ever!! Edge of your seat reading

From the very first chapter the Doctor was thrown off course (so to speak) and from that moment onwards he was pulled or thrust into one helpless situation to another. Throughout the book I was constantly wondering "What next? What else could go wrong?" and "How's he gonna get out of this one?" I currently have over 35 Dr Who books in my Kindle's library...yet this is my first review. This one was a whopper! Some of these story lines are rather predictable. Not this one. Well, maybe after you read this...

*** WARNING!! *** Very mild SPOILERS!!
The tale begins when the Doctor finds himself taken back into the Daleks history, at a time shortly before a great war between Humans & Daleks goes head to head. Finding himself trapped & rescued by the not altogether friendly, neighbourhood Dalek catchers, the Doctor soon finds himself in a situation beyond his control. And there's many more to follow.

The Doctor remains in the company of these Dalek hunters (who are still undefined as friend or foe) as he embarks on the latest solo adventure - confronting the ugly face of war, discovering the latest Dalek attempt to wipe humans from *time* (hint, hint) & space and then staying alive long enough to save humanity, preferably in time for tea and crumpets.

This is a tale of an abandoned TARDIS, deception, ambush, death, bluffs, war crimes/torture, uneasy truces, uncertain allies, plots to take over space & time...and of course, running.. This was one of the closest shaves the Doctor has encountered in my time - loved every moment of it.

New characters and new adventure

I became a whovian recently and I have really been absorbed in the Doctor. So when I finished all tv episodes, I began to find novels. And I found this.
Personaly I prefer new characters who don't know about the Doctor and tardis. Because I like the moment when the Doctor reveals himself and then every other characters are astonished except me :) I even feel a bit proud, little bit childish though..
Anyway in this novel, there are 5 new living characters who have each traits and courage. And most of all, the author completely understands the Doctor's character so you might be confused whether you are watching tv or reading it.
And I also purchsed its audio book and I really enjoyed it. The narrator can speak almost alike tenth doctor's accent and the book has lots of daleck's grated voice :)
Although I am not good at english but I really could enjoy this novel. And if you choose this one you would not regret!

Some books just sneak up on you and you're never the same after. I'd heard very little about David Finkel's Thank You For Your Service before reading it, and I hadn't read his previous book, The Good Soldiers, so my expectations were muted going into it. That changed quickly. This book is so personal, so moving, that I devoured it. Although the subject matter is difficult, you grow with the book as you read. One might even expect it to be a little dry and boring—it is not. David Finkel's nonfiction account of soldiers returning from combat is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I'll leave you with this blurb from author Katherine Boo, who couldn't have summarized my reading of the book (and hopefully yours) any better:

Chris Schluep: Describe your research. How much time did you spend with the returned soldiers in the book?

David Finkel: The short answer is a year and a half, but the more accurate answer is ever since early 2007. I say that because my research really started when I embedded with the 2-16 infantry battalion during its fifteen-month deployment to eastern Baghdad during the Iraq War “surge” of 2007-2008. The story of what happened to those soldiers became my first book, The Good Soldiers and The Good Soldiers is what allowed and informed Thank You For Your Service, which is the second volume of the story. In Iraq, I was with Adam Schumann on the day he so guiltily left the war, and Tausolo Aieti on the day he was blown up and his dreams began. I met Nic DeNinno there and was there on the day that James Doster died. After The Good Soliders was published in 2009, it became clear that the story was only partly told. So many of the soldiers, home now, and so many of their families, were tipping over so many edges. Their war had become an after-war, and so I began traveling to Kansas, where the 2-16 is based, to see what I might be able to write. That brings me back to the short answer of eighteen months, which was how long I spent with the Schumanns, the Aietis, the DeNinnos, the surviving family of James Doster, and the rest of the people documented in Thank You For Your Service. That’s how long it took for me to feel confident that the story I’d be writing would feel true to a reader and true to them as well.

CS: When did you decide that Thank You For Your Service should be the title? Was it always the working title? What were your thoughts behind naming it that?

DF: I had a different title in mind when I was writing the book. Let’s just say it had the phrase “suicide room” in it, and when I mentioned it to someone at the publishing house, the reaction was: “That’s terrific. By the way, are you trying to put us out of business?” Or something like that. The reaction was better when I suggested Thank You For Your Service. Everyone liked it immediately – my editor, my agent, the folks in publicity -- except, for some time, me. I was concerned that people would think I was being sarcastic, or ironic, or bitter, or that I was expressing my own sugary gratitude. Instead of it being a title that would reflect the journalism inside the covers, I worried that it would instead be seen as reflecting an opinion of mine, and I’ve tried hard in Thank You For Your Service to keep any hint of my opinion out of the work. What finally turned it for me was coming up with an answer that, if I were asked about the title, would neatly explain my intentions: These are some of the people you’re thanking, and this is what you’re thanking them for.

CS: Did your opinion of the war and the people in it change between writing The Good Soldiers and writing this book?

DF: Well, I try hard to keep my opinions out of my work, and I’m reluctant to bring opinion into the mix now. To me, the emphasis should be on the soldiers and their families because they were – and are – the ones in the midst of it. Can I recast the question to: Have their opinions changed between coming home from the war in 2008 and now? The answer: absolutely, although I can only speak anecdotally, based on the people I’ve spent time with. It’s worth emphasizing that they are among the wounded ones and that most of the people deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan are unwounded and presumably doing fine. Among the subset of the mentally wounded, though, which has been estimated at between 20 and 30 percent of the two million U.S. troops who have been deployed into the two wars, which works out to roughly 500,000 or so people, one of the profound changes in them is reflected in this line from the book: “while the truth of war is that it’s always about loving the guy next to you, the truth of the after-war is that you’re on your own.” In other words, in addition to the grief and guilt so many of these people carry, there’s also a widening sense of isolation and lonesomeness, which has led to an ever-deepening wondering of what their war was all about. Their initial sense of mission is largely gone, replaced by in some cases anger and in many cases a churning feeling of bewilderment.

CS: How did writing this book change you?

DF: Since I’m now nearly seven years older than when I began these books, maybe these changes would have happened anyway, but I’m probably a little sadder than I used to be, and also more grateful than I used to be. What else? I like ending a day with wine on my front porch more than I used to. I like shenanigans less than I used to. I grew up in a house where the threat of suicide was present for several years, so it's been interesting to revisit that. I think of war now not only intellectually but viscerally. I dream about it sometimes, but not as much as I did. I’m glad my friends now include soldiers, and that their friends now include someone like me.

This is what they're talking about, when they're talking about war stories

Commenting on this book should start with the elegiac cover image of nameless soldiers packed into a transport plane - small, faceless and an honest visual portrayal. That's what soldiers looked like, going overseas or coming home: tired and small and grinding out another day. As this easily five-star book explains, that grind continues long after the plane ride ends.

In interviews, author David Finkel has made clear he did not use the title ironically - as he said, when one says 'thank you' this book describes what those words are thanking a soldier or their families for.

This book follows soldiers and family members first chronicled in Finkel's The Good Soldiers, which told the story of an Iraq deployment in 2007-8. The years since have given Finkel the time and space to tell a post-war story with honest perspective.

Finkel scrupulously avoids the first-person narration so self-indulgently common in many wartime stories and memoirs. He does not pass judgement, or editorialize. He witnesses and chronicles events and conversations, but only rarely can a reader say with confidence what Finkel actually thought. That's a compliment - the narrative becomes the subject's story, whether it's Sgt. Adam Schumann, dealing with crippling PTSD, or Amanda Doster, who lost her husband, or others. With this objective focus, I rarely felt manipulated or emotionally distracted by a writer's demand that I feel something - the descriptions do that without needing any artificial help.

The book should make a reader angry and frustrated, first at the system that makes it so difficult for soldiers to get the clear-cut help they need - mostly because that help doesn't yet exist in simple terms. Everyone's trying - the book describes ample programs and functions and meetings and therapies, all of which try to find the common thread that can solve the problem. But they're learning on the fly, and it's not there yet. Second, a reader's aggravation is often directed at the soldiers - in one scene, it doesn't make sense why Schumann and his wife Saskia would get into a drag-out fight over a car radio station. Why can't he just relax? Why is he so keyed-up over nonsense? But that's the point - it doesn't make sense. And there doesn't seem to be an answer, which explains Schumann's honest and bitter frustration, which is more than matched by his wife's. While the couple remains together at the end of the book, it doesn't seem very hopeful.

Amanda Doster represents the hundreds of wives and mothers (and husbands) who lost their loved ones. She's fine financially, with a house paid for, and her kids apparently well taken care of. But all her future plans and expectations are over, and nothing has yet replaced them. It's heartbreaking, because like with Schumann, there is no switch to solve the problem. "Thank you" doesn't do it.

The book's success is that it provides the long-term context lacking in most wartime narratives. By following these men and women in years after the war, we're presented a much more honest account based on earned experience, not hope or theories. While "The Good Soldiers" is a wartime classic, it's very much rooted in a past time. "Thank You" provides a more lasting and meaningful - and ultimately, American - story.

One valid criticism of the book could be that it reinforces the "broken soldier" narrative, as though every veteran of the war is equally damaged and unable to function. I'll admit that more than once I thought to myself 'why can't they just get it together?' which misses the point that they certainly would if they could.

Hundreds of thousands of veterans came home fine, but thousands didn't. For those who complain this book reinforces a negative stereotype of a "few" damaged soldiers, my question would be what's the right number before it would be okay to focus on them, to make sure we don't forget their side to the story? Two? 200? 20,000? 200,000? If the system struggles to support the after-war needs of ANY of our veterans, I would say we need a close look at that. That's part of the deal. They don't just get paid to fight; they get paid to serve - and this after-war is part of that.

I'm an Iraq veteran myself (in 1991), and like Finkel, I embedded as a journalist in Iraq different times from 2007-09 (including part of the time Finkel describes in "The Good Soldiers"). One of the soldiers I met in '07, and again in '09, was injured in an IED attack that killed the guy sitting next to him; later, a friend of his was shot during their squad's patrol, "the second time I looked in somebody's eyes, who was dying," he said. I don't keep in touch much, but I know he's still on active duty today, an Army recruiter and senior NCO, as good humored and funny as he was back then. I'm glad that most of the soldiers I met seemed to have come home okay, heading on to college, jobs, or still on active duty - but of all those men, I'm sure some didn't and I just don't know.

No way to say thanks

Perhaps the most painful book I have ever read but one of the most important ones. As the mother of an Iraq and Afghanistan vet I will never fully comprehend the pain and miseries those wars brought to those who fought them but tinkle helps me realize how deep and lasting that pain and misery is. This is a book that every congressman or woman, every cabinet member and every president should read and remember before they ever open their mouths to speak about a war they did not fight or veterans they likely will never know. I thank David finkel for both the good soldier as well as this book.

The War Isn't Over, Ever

War does not end when the troops fly home. In some sense, the conflict is written in the brain circuitry of every soldier; ordinary events have altered meanings as former warriors return to their families and civilian jobs. For those with traumatic brain injuries or severe PTSD, normal life never resumes. Thank You For Your Service tells the post-conflict stories of soldiers who came home with problems severe enough to wreak havoc in their lives.

This is not the type of book I generally read. My taste runs more toward politics and science. But I'm glad I read it because it gave me a deeper sense of the cost of war. When a nation goes to war, the national treasury is drained to pay for war materiel and it consigns it's soldiers to battlefields from which many of them will never return, some physically and others psychologically. The book made me wonder about how many of my father's quirks were a result of his service in World War II. As children, we knew his hearing loss was the result of ordinance exploding too close to his left ear and the pain he experienced when he walked in the ocean in New England dated back to frozen feet in the icy winter in Europe. I can't help but wonder whether his temper and heavy drinking were also remnants of war and trauma.

In the end, the war comes home to us in ways this book helped me to understand in a deeper way. It is well worth reading. For those with war veterans in their lives, it is essential reading.
